Athletics, A Way of Life

Athletic: physically strong or vigorous---Athleticism:the state of being an athlete or taking part in athletic events.
Recently it was written that over $110 billion in health care is spent each year on treating medical issues pertaining to obesity and the problems that result from it. America has never been more unhealthy, well over 50% of its citizens are considered to be obese. Actually, the figure may be closer to 60%. When the need to exercise is brought up to most people, it usually elicits a groan and a grimace. The following are some quotes by Percy Cerutty regarding athleticism: "Our athleticism must be,and should be, adult play.It is when we make it work----dull,routined,scheduled,treadmill work---that we depart from the natural; the joyous;the exhilarating." America desperately needs a change in attitude and priorities. Satiating every desire,be it for food or entertainment, needs to be replaced with a return to simplicity,a love and appreciation of the outdoors and a respect for our own bodies.
